HOME > TYPES > SOCKET TYPES
These screws are used to hold objects in place. The threaded portion screws into the outer object and the inner object (often a shaft of some sort) is held in place when the tip of the set screw, or point, comes in contact with the outer surface. There are different points for different applications.
Other Names: Grub Screw, Headless Screw
Points/Types | ||
---|---|---|
Cone Point | A sharp point tip that digs into the mating surface providing a strong hold. | |
Cup Point | A cup shaped indent that makes a circular cutting edge that cuts into the contact surface. | |
Extended (Dog) Point | A protruding cylinder tip that can lock the mating part in place if a matching hole is drilled into it. Can come in half dog, which is a smaller protruding tip than the standard full dog. | |
Flat Point | A flat end that does not cut into the contact surface to minimize damage to the mating part. | |
Knurled Point | A type of cup point where the cup is knurled for even better gripping strength. | |
Nylon Tip | A protruding cylinder nylon tip that eliminates surface damage to the mating part. | |
Oval Point | A rounded end allows small adjustments while limiting surface damage to the mating part. | |
Square Head (Jack Bolt) | A type of set screw that has a square head rather than a recessed hex. This can be for greater bearing surface for torquing or sometimes in leveling/jacking situations. |
