Self-Drilling (Tek) Screw

These screws feature a self-drilling tip. The drill point can drill a starting hole so the threads of the screw can cut into the material, securing it into place.

Other Names: Drill Point Screw, Tek Screw

Point Length: Tek screws are often distinguished by the length of their drill point. The length determines how thick of material the screw can drill through. They can be #2, #3, #4, or #5. #5 denotes the longest point.

Sealing Washer: A sealing washer is sometimes added to make the connection water proof when installed

Wings: These are added when attaching wood to metal. They are small portions of metal just above the drill point that make a wider hole in the wood so the threads do not engage until they hit the metal material. Once the wings hit the metal, they snap off.
