Type 17 Screw

These screws are a type of wood screw designed specifically for fastening to hard wood. The head of the screw is tapered to sit flush into the material when installed. They are often coated for rust protection. A special type of coating is applied if going into treated lumber to eliminate chemical reaction to the wood treatment.

Nibs: Small ribs on the head that help the head sink into the wood without chipping.

Type 17: A cavity at the tip of the screw that makes starting the screw easier and pushes material up the screw shank to avoid splitting the wood.

Other Names: Deck Screw, Deep Thread Wood Screws, Woodworking Screws, Cabinet Screws
